Psycho-Spiritual Therapy For Women & Couples

What is Psycho-Spiritual Therapy?

Psycho-spiritual therapy recognizes that humans are multidimensional — emotional, psychological, relational, and spiritual beings. This is a generalized way to understand our values and orientation. WE borrow from Transpersonal Therapy, Parts Work and Depth Psychology to create a psycho-spiritual therapeutic experience at Transform the Nest.

Much of our modern time has been only focused on our logical thinking and has ignored the other aspects of our whole selves. For too long, mind, or intellect, and body were considered separate entities by dominant culture.  As a society, we are starting to come back to an idea of wholeness, honoring all the parts of us. We are beginning to understand what many Indigenous cultures have known: there are deep and meaningful connections between the intellect and body and soul. Recent research is now acknowledging this ancient knowledge- that spirituality plays a significant role in health and longevity.

Psycho-spiritual therapy is a holistic approach to mental and emotional well-being that integrates psychological and spiritual practices. It embraces the spiritual dimension of the human being as fundamental to the psychology and holistic health of the individual.

Psycho-spiritual therapy utilizes both psychological and spiritual methods in a holistic and integrated approach to healing and evolution. Psycho-spiritual therapy utilizes a wide range of therapeutic systems which embrace a spiritual dimension of the human being as fundamental to psychic health and full human development.

Psycho-spritual therapy aims to address the root causes of emotional and psychological issues, often exploring deeper spiritual dimensions that are not always accessible in traditional psychotherapy. Psycho-spiritual therapy is holistic and recognizes the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit. To take it one step further, we embrace the ideologies of transpersonal therapy which not only explores personal spirituality but also integrates concepts from philosophy and mysticism - connecting our personal spiritual experiences to the wider web of life and collective consciousness. We also utilize parts Work and depth psychology to create a psycho-spiritual therapeutic experience at Transform the Nest.

Much of our modern time has been only focused on traditional psychotherapy can unknowingly perpetuate harm as it only recognizes healing of the mind as it is derived from a colonialist perspective. We believe it is important to not just focus on the mind but also recognize the body and the spirit as imperative to effectively heal at the root.

Is Psycho-Spiritual Therapy Religious?

Spirituality is not the same as religiosity

When utilizing spirituality in therapy, we take into consideration your personal belief system and help you understand a concept of spirituality that is unique to you.  Spirituality is your soul’s relationship to Spirit, as defined by you. Your religious views (or lack thereof) may or may not be related to your spiritual beliefs, and/or practices. We honor the universal truths that are alive in all spiritual traditions and believe there are many paths towards spiritual development and healing. We believe connecting to spirit can help guide us to deeper, more connected rhythms. Depending on your beliefs, some of these connections are very personal and could be defined as:

  • Source

  • Universe

  • God

  • Creator

  • Allah

  • Yahweh

  • Enlightenment

  • Higher Power

Psycho-spiritual counseling considers both spiritual experiences and beliefs alongside clinical understandings of psychological angst and diagnosis. It is not religious in any way although any individual can have their own religious beliefs while benefitting from this therapy.

Psycho-Spiritual Therapy at Transform the Nest

Spiritual development can often feel isolating. We are meant to heal in a community and we have witnessed the power of community healing and believe this type of therapy and rituals are what our culture needs. We believe in coming back to ancient ways that can help heal the deep disconnection and loneliness that so many of us feel. We are looking to offer sincere and holistic healing thus finding more adaptable and loving ways to live in our bodies, one another and the planet. Much of this work aims to connect to a deeper, more nuanced sense of time and being. We believe in deep time and new, emerging ways of being. This psycho-spiritual work looks at both honoring our ancestors and our roles in becoming future ancestors as beacons of hope for future generations.

“The right way to wholeness is made up, unfortunately, of fateful detours and wrong turnings. It is a longissima via, not straight but snakelike, a path that unites in the manner of a guiding caduceus, a path whose labyrinthine twists and turns are not lacking in terrors.” - Carl Jung

At Transform the Nest, we know very personally how you can feel disconnected from your fellow humans when you are growing. Conscious evolution can be a subversive and powerful way to affect change we want to see in the world. Many prophecies have anticipated this time as a time of both a great unraveling and rapid evolution. Our goal is to contribute personal and collective healing to this hurting world through evidence-based and effective healing practices.  We have a deep desire to help our clients feel secure in their missions and know that living a life aligned with values can help change many lives. You can create great change by working towards alignment in your emotional, spiritual, physical and relational lives.

We pride ourselves on walking the talk. With AI and social media, there are many in healing spaces that know how to use all the right clinical language and philosophies without actually doing their own work. This is imitation and not real embodiment and we can feel that disconnect in our  bodies. We believe in doing our own healing work and integrating  that understanding into our offerings as therapists. We believe that embodied and well informed therapists can make a huge difference in our client’s lives and pride ourselves on embodying the deep and transformative power of real healing work. We hope that our clients can feel that alignment and effort in session.

At Transform the Nest, Psycho-spiritual therapy incorporates the following components:

  • Behavioral Talk Therapy: This involves discussing thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a therapist. We use behavioral interventions, such as DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) as a framework for much of the talk therapy sessions. These methods help look at behavior changes that can honor your soul’s desires.

  • Depth Therapy: We have researched and embodied methods that help connect to spirit. We are big fans of archetypal journey work and utilize evidence-based practices to connect with spirit. Some of these modalities include IFS, EMDR and Breathwork.

  • Mindfulness and Meditation: We love guided meditations and mindfulness practices and utilize many different techniques. These practices help our clients cultivate present-moment awareness and reduce stress through developing an understanding of our nervous systems and its needs.

  • Spiritual Practices: This may include tarot/oracle cards, prayer, journaling, or other spiritual exercises to assist in connecting to the unseen yet powerful world of spirit.

  • Ancestral Reverence: Identifying and connecting to your familial line is a powerful way to practice psycho-spiritual therapy. Those in your ancestral line and here to help you navigate your healing journey. Understanding your familial history can help you connect to a deeper sense of time and space.

  • Body-Mind Connection: This involves exploring the connection between the mind and body through practices like breathwork, yoga, or other somatic exercises. These bottom up practices are compliments to the therapeutic modalities we are trained in.

  • Healing Circles: These circles are so much more than group therapy. They are an experiential way for women to connect with others and feel connection to their own hearts and soul in community. We have witnessed spiritual transformation again and again when healing in community.

Psycho-Spiritual Therapy for Women

For women, psycho-spiritual therapy can be particularly powerful, as it acknowledges the unique challenges and experiences women face as they honor and reconnect with the divine feminine within them.

Much of feminine, earth-based spirituality has been wiped out or rather disregarded as woo woo.  This is by design. Women have been taught not to trust their own intuition for much too long. Psycho-spiritual therapy is an opportunity for women to connect to their own innate power and sovereignty outside of harmful systems (openly naming that psychotherapy is one of those harmful systems). As an anecdote, we wish to help create more holistic and effective healing in the psychotherapy space.

Often times, women may need to develop skills with other types of therapy before embarking on this deeper, spiritual work. Luckily, Riley Thomas offers DBT as a way to first develop skills before starting this deeper transpersonal work.

Psycho-Spiritual Therapy for Couples

Relationships are not just emotional and physical — they are deeply spiritual. At our practice, we offer Psycho-Spiritual Therapy for Couples. We blend the science-backed tools of the Gottman Method with the inner work of personal and spiritual growth.

Whether you're navigating communication challenges, emotional disconnection, or life transitions, this approach is designed to help you reconnect — not just with each other, but with yourselves and your shared purpose. This work often explores:

  • Core wounds and healing patterns

  • Attachment and intimacy

  • Purpose and shared vision

  • Emotional and energetic presence

  • Mindfulness, compassion, and forgiveness

Developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the Gottman Method is grounded in decades of research on what makes relationships succeed or fail. It offers practical, evidence-based tools to build trust, manage conflict, and create lasting intimacy.

These are woven together with spiritual principles and practices to help couples grow on every level. This work is ideal for couples who:

  • Want more than just “communication skills”

  • Are open to spiritual or inner growth

  • Feel stuck in emotional patterns or cycles

  • Desire a deeper sense of purpose in their relationship

  • Seek both practical tools and soulful connection

You don’t need to follow any particular spiritual tradition — this work is inclusive and personalized to your beliefs, practices, and needs. Each session is a sacred space for exploration, healing, and connection. You can expect:

  • Grounded dialogue and reflection

  • Gottman assessments and exercises

  • Guided meditations or rituals (when appropriate)

  • Homework to deepen your connection between sessions

If you and your partner are ready to explore your relationship from the inside out, psycho-spiritual couples therapy may be your next step.
